Dr Tanya Hill develops new astronomy productions for the Melbourne Planetarium and creates opportunities for the general public to find out about astronomical events and learn of new discoveries about our Universe. Tanya joined Museum Victoria in 1999 and was part of the team that opened the Melbourne Planetarium at Scienceworks. She has drawn on her background in research astronomy to create more than a dozen planetarium productions. The most recent of these are now screened in over fifty planetariums across sixteen countries worldwide. Tanya obtained her PhD from University of Sydney in 2002, where she studied active galaxies. Her research involved hunting out supermassive black holes using a variety of Australian telescopes. Tanya is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Melbourne. She writes an astronomy column for the Conversation called 'Look Up'. She is the Australian representative for the European Southern Observatory's Science Network Outreach and the Prizes and Awards Coordinator for the Astronomical Society of Australia.
