Mariam Issa is an author, visionary storyteller and a human rights advocate. She came to Australia as a refugee from Somalia in 1998. Mariam has worked extensively with women since she fled her homeland in 1991 right up to the present in Australia. She has seen the injustice and flight of women from camps to detention centres to starting all over in a new country, and she has witnessed their resilience and aspirations.
